Hundreds of people participate each year in the January Money Diet, and you’re invited to join the Fourth Annual January Money Diet starting January 1, 2013 when we again embark on a month-long break from nonessential spending. The January Money Diet will challenge you to explore ways to live well and have a fabulous time–without spending cash.
Throughout the month, Happy Simple Living will post money-saving tips, photos, recipes, do-it-yourself ideas, moneymaking strategies and reader suggestions to help you start the new year right. We’ll also be featuring your tips, guest bloggers experts, and special prizes - so check back often!
Here’s how to join the challenge:
1. Subscribe to the Happy Simple Living feed to have the daily posts conveniently delivered to your e-mail InBox.
2. Leave a comment below pledging your participation.
“Doing the money diet was a great experience — by cutting out unnecessary spending, I was able to pay off some bills, and I had a lot of fun trying out free activities in the area. I will definitely be dieting again.” ~ Laura N.

Check back in December of 2012 for more details about the next January Money Diet. My hope is that by participating in this group endeavor together, we’ll all start the new year a little wiser and a little richer — both personally and financially.

After a three-week, cross-country family visiting extravaganza, I’m in. Better late than never!
Since I earn no income in January this suits me perfectly!
I have just found your January Money Diet, but I have been participating in my own all month. I am currently unemployed after being a recent Grad School graduate (though actively interviewing) and have been pinching my pennies until I land a job. This time has made me a smarter spender and saver. I have always saved a portion of money growing up, as I was taught by my mother, but now I am seeing the necessity of it even more. I haven’t been buying the unnecessary items and saving my money towards what I really need and this has been helpful since I do not have an income right now. I hope these saving skills I have learned over this time will follow forward with me when I do get a job.

I’m pretty late, but I’d love to try this. Maybe I can take the tips and extend the diet into February to get at least a full month diet!
This is a great suggestion. I love the “January Money Diet” and the Happy Simple Living site. I found your site while looking for ways to save money as a sudden injury cut our income in half. It is less about deprivation or what you are giving up when you focus on identifying what is meaningful and necessary and let go of the rest.
I just found your site and would like to join in the Janaury money diet, late as I am.
Just found your site and signed up for emails. Love it!!
I just found this, but I think it will be great for me. I guess I’ll just have a February Money Diet!
