Win a Copy of My Favorite Book About Romance

Colorado Romance at Happy Simple Living blog

My dear friend Gail Riley and her husband Tom Statzell own a wonderful inn here in Colorado, Highland Haven Creekside Inn. In the charming town of Evergreen (about an hour’s drive from Denver) along the banks of Bear Creek, Gail and Tom have created a magical retreat with luxurious private cabins, suites, rooms and their latest labor of love, the TreeHouse.

Highland Haven has been the setting for many marriage proposals, honeymoons and anniversaries, so it’s fitting that Gail wrote a book about romance.

Colorado Romance: Love Notes and Recipes for Happiness is filled with Gail’s sumptuous recipes and menus, photos, memories, and plenty of ideas for celebrating and fostering romance. She also shares a selection of writings from the guest journals that are in each room, and I can never read these tender thoughts about love and relationships without getting choked up.

This gorgeous, 152-page book retails for $35.00, and you could win your very own copy. In honor of Valentine’s Day, Gail has generously donated a hardback edition to give away to one lucky reader.

  1. Romance is not necessarily about flowers and chocolate and jewelry. It is about truly knowing your spouse … having studied your partner well enough to understand what would be important and meaningful to them and then doing those things out of your love for them. I don’t like spending money on things that wilt or that add to my waistline or that depreciate 66% the minute you walk out of the jewelry store. My husband has taken the time to study me and know that about me. He will, if past Valentine’s serve as a predictor, spend money on a shared experience – a romantic bed and breakfast or a couples spa retreat or just a wonderful meal out where he tells me why I am important to him. I, on the other hand, will sew that button on his favorite cargos or scratch his back without being asked or take my car in for an oil change before he has to remind me. Remarkably enough, that is romantic to him 🙂

  2. Every morning for nearly 26 years the first thing my husband says is “good morning, Beautiful”. That is romantic. He often takes my books back to the library and pays my fine. I don’t ask him to. He just knows that is something I often forget to do. That is romantic. He will come home from the grocery store with my favorite apples and they won’t even be on sale! I can get a bad hair cut and when I say “well, how do you think it looks?” He says, “Looks like it makes me want to run away with you!” I think he invented romance just for me.

  3. Romance is a beautiful feeling when we can share it with a soulmate who is understanding, empathetic, compassionate and thoughtful. When we are well or suffering someone who can sense what we need to soothe our souls. When my husband bought me bath salts to help me feel better and a hot cup of tea when I am cold that to me is the essence of romance. A meaningful, beautiful and kind gesture that is heartfelt means more to me than anything else since it warms my heart and soothes my soul.
