Dear friends,
In today’s post I’ll share some simple ways to store your digital documents and photos. While it’s great to keep copies on our computer hard drives or portable drives, storing documents on the Cloud (on a secure server at a different location) will provide another layer of protection against hazards like fire, flooding, drive failure and computer viruses.
These are some of my favorite, simple-to-use storage options. (These are not affiliate links, and I’m not being compensated in any way for these recommendations.)
I store documents, manuscripts and important projects in Dropbox. With the free version, you can store up to 2 GB of files. I now use the paid version because I ran out of free space, but for $9.99 a month I get 1 terabyte (that’s 1,000 gigabytes) of space. I like Dropbox because you can securely share documents with others. For example, I can create a special link if I want to share a file of investment statements with my tax preparer.
Other recommended cloud-based storage providers include Carbonite, SpiderOak and Tresorit Solo.
If you have Amazon Prime, you can store unlimited photos on the company’s servers with Amazon Photo. If you don’t have Prime or later decide to cancel, Amazon offers reasonably priced storage plans starting at $11.99 USD a year for 100 GB.
Flickr offers a terabyte of free photo storage. Flickr is also an easy platform to use if you want to share your photos with your friends and family.
Our photos are stored in Apple’s ICloud. If you have an iPhone, you’ll automatically get 5 GB of free storage. Upgrades are reasonably priced, with 50 GB of storage for 99 cents a month.
How About You?
Do you store important documents and photos on the Cloud? Do you have other services to recommend besides the ones mentioned here? I always love hearing your comments and suggestions.
If you do 20 minutes of paper decluttering today, let us know! Share your comments on this post or over at the Facebook Money Diet Community Group. If you post photos of your progress, use the #PaperFree hashtag so we can cheer you on!
You’ll hear from me again tomorrow with tips for filing and storing papers so they don’t take over the house while you’re sleeping.
Best always,
