I love the cheese cracker recipe, but I would like to avoid the vegetable shortening…would you suggest an alternative?

You bet – you can simply use 4 tablespoons of butter and avoid the shortening. The crackers will have more of a shortbread texture, but they’ll still taste fabulous. Or you can try a shortening brand like Spectrum, which is an organic shortening made from cold-pressed palm oil.
