January Money Diet from Happy Simple Living blog

Could you go 31 days without spending a nickle on anything but the barest necessities?

The biggest surprise for most people who participate in the January Money Diet is that it’s kind of fun. You might think that it would be a drag, not spending for more than four weeks, but we get resourceful and discover that we can have a really good time without spending cash.

Not being able to spend forces us all to find creative ways to use things we already have, plan for the future, daydream, learn and try new things, and explore a lifestyle that is not based on spending money and accumulating more stuff.

What I’ve discovered after participating in the January Money Diet for four years now is that starting the year this way helps me create habits that last far into the future. When I see how quickly money can accumulate when I am not frittering it away on small impulse purchases and more stuff, it’s very exciting. It inspires me to be more thoughtful about how I spend money the other 11 months of the year.

How about you? Would you like to try the January Money Diet this year? You’ll have plenty of company from all of us who are doing it with you. Whether you want to pay down debt, increase your savings, or simply take a breather after the holidays, you’re invited to join the January Money Diet and enjoy the benefits of participating with a like-minded community. Best of all, it’s completely free to join.

Are you in? All you have to do is go to the official January Money Diet page, enter your e-mail address to receive the daily updates, and leave a comment to make your participation official.

Together, we can do big things! Here’s to your happiest, most prosperous year yet.

We are remodeling our house…trying to replenish our emergency fund and savings and pay off debt AND save up money for our vacation in May… but I stink at sticking to a budget…I stink at menu planning so that my trip to the grocery store is not total impulse buys because I have NO idea what we will be having for the nex two weeks…making several trips to the store because I decide on something else that I found on the internet and so on… I think joining this would be very helpful to me and my work…
