Today’s challenge is to make something from scratch that you might normally buy at the store. Here are some ideas to get you started:

    We love to make many of the items you listed above. We also love to make pasta…you don’t need a machine–just a rolling pin! It’s amazing how great flour and a couple of eggs can taste! Crackers are also yummy to make from scratch, and are very easy!

    We regularily make our own pizza, which is this Saturday’s dinner. I want to try making my own mayo, so that is a project for this month. I love trying to make at home what I would order or buy away from home. It always makes me feel just that much more self-sufficient.

    My grandkids love eating chicken strips and fries. Last night we cut up some chicken and sliced up potatoes for our own fresh cut fries. The kids loved them. I think our next project is going to be making our own bread. My daughter has a bread maker she’s never used.

  • The easiest and cheapest thing to make from scratch is chicken stock – you make it entirely from scraps (leftover chicken carcass, wilted veggies, ends of onions, etc.), so there is really zero cost. Freeze it in small containers and you’re set!
