Day 22 of the January Money Diet – Find Cash With a Financial Tuneup

Find cash at the Happy Simple Living blog

Last year the New York Times ran a great story about some novel ways to, as the author puts it, “unlock cash.” The best news? It only takes a few hours to run through the list, and if you’re like me, you’ll discover at least one idea you hadn’t thought of. The first idea on the list is redeeming credit card rewards cash, and sure enough, I had $25 sitting there gathering dust that I transferred to an interest-bearing savings account.

Here’s the article:

…and after you go through it, be sure to let us know if you discover some cash!

P.S. In case you’ve just joined us, the January Money Diet is a challenge to take a 31-day break from nonessential spending. You can learn more about the money diet here — and jump right in!

Win a Deluxe Happy Simple Living Gift Basket

In honor of the January Money Diet, I’ll be giving away a gift basket chock-full of home and garden goodies plus several books at the end of the month. On January 31, 2012 I’ll draw one random name from everyone who commented during the month and that lucky person will win the gift basket. I hope you’ll stop by often this month and share your own ideas, thoughts and experiences about taking a 31-day break from nonessential spending.

I don’t use credit cards so no rewards there. I do however use Swagbucks to do internet searches and accumulate them to buy something I want from Amazon. Right now I’m accumulating them to buy a Kindle Fire. When we rent movies we do take advantage of the take them back early and get credit for the next time. That saves us some money.
